Norman invasion

In the year 1066 the Normans, led by a man called William, invaded England from the Normandy area of France.

The King of England had just died without leaving a son so they wanted to take over the country.

They fought the English at the Battle of Hastings and won. Harold Godwinson who led the English was shot in the eye with an arrow and died.

William called himself a conqueror because he now wanted to rule the country. He marched to London and was crowned King on Christmas Day.
