In Victorian towns, poor families with up to six children lived in terraced houses that were joined together in a line. Many were built from bricks and slate.

They had chimneys because they had a fireplace in most rooms to keep warm.

Victorian houses also often had: bay windows (that stick out), iron railings and stained glass in doorways.
